Dr. Allen Dwight Callahan is a Baptist minister and professor of New Testament who has written several books on various topics related to the Christian faith. A former associate professor at the Harvard Divinity School, Dr. Callahan has served at several universities in the United States and Brazil.
Embassy of Onesimus: The Letter of Paul to Philemon is a careful analysis of the oft-overlooked Bible book Philemon. A Love Supreme: A History of Johannine Tradition explores the books of the New Testament that are traditionally attributed to John the Apostle. Interpretation contributor Earl S. Johnson found that the book was "written in a creative and poetic style," and remarked that it "invites a careful reexamination of themes that still provide belief and life in Jesus' name." The Talking Book: African Americans and the Bible traces the impact that the Bible has had on African American culture through the decades, from the era of the slave trade to the twenty-first century. Writing for the Black Issues Book Review, Alvelyn J. Sanders described the book as a "lengthy but engaging illustration of the fluid, transcendental and eternal power of the Bible."
Dr. Callahan received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his masters and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University.
A dedicated father of four and grandfather, Dr. Callahan is married to Dr.Jeanette Callahan, a pediatrician and assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. They live in Boston.
